This New $1.99 ALDI Find Is Better Than a Restaurant’s

I’m a big fan of French desserts. Give me something creamy and dreamy, add an espresso, and I’m transported back to those little cafés in Paris, where you sit and people watch while practicing your French, s’il vous plaît.

Well, ALDI’s latest dessert find in the deli section will have you speaking French in no time. I am currently swooning over their new Specially Selected Pot de Crèmes (pronounced poh-deh-crehm).

What’s So Great About ALDI’s Specially Selected Pot de Crème Desserts

If you’ve never enjoyed a pot de crème, it’s like a custard. They’re luscious, little pots of custardy goodness, and they are, hands down, one of my favorite desserts ever!

These little darlings are sold in individual glass containers for $1.99 per 3.5 ounce dessert and come in two flavors: chocolate and coffee. That’s a bargain—a similar dessert at my favorite French restaurant costs $15, and the only difference is that it’s served with a little cookie and some whipped cream.

ALDI’s pot de crème desserts are as delicious as some of the ones I’ve had in the fanciest of French restaurants. The ingredients list is short—basically cream, sugar, egg yolks, and either chocolate or coffee.

The coffee tastes of real espresso and cream while the chocolate is rich and dark chocolatey. I love them both, but I have to say, tasting them side by side (because, well, I had to), I like the chocolate a little bit better.

My son’s review of them is “Taste good, texture good.” Yes, he sounds like a Neanderthal, but he’s 14. My husband simply ate two in one sitting and then asked if we had another in the refrigerator.

In my opinion, they’re so rich, one is enough for a single serving, but if you have teenagers or spouses who have a sweet tooth, then you might want to buy two per person.

What I also really like about them is that they come in real glass containers. You could recycle the spent containers or you could use them as a ring holder by the sink, store paper clips in them, or use them as mini ramekins to serve your own pot de crème or puddings. They’re truly adorable containers.
